From the concern about the environmental impact of the drought to the worry over new regulations and fines, homeowners are looking for ways to save water and money. One major change that makes a significant impact is converting traditional lawns and landscaping to drought tolerant plants and desert scapes.
To help mitigate the cost of converting a lawn to desert-friendly plants, Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) offers landscaping rebates to homeowners who want to reduce their outdoor water usage. For residential customers, CVWD rebates are available at $1 per square foot up to a maximum of 1,000 square feet per project, with a maximum of two projects per home.
For more information about this program, you can visit the CVWD website.
Customers may also be eligible for an additional rebate from their city. Different cities have different names and criteria for their programs.
- Palm Desert – Turf Buyback Program (applications being accepted beginning August 1)
- Cathedral City – WaterSmart Landscape Grant Program
- Indio – Landscape Rebate
- Rancho Mirage – Turf Conversion Program
